Bob Kelley
CEO, ABL Organization
Bob Kelley is CEO of the ABL Organization. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of six technology companies, each focused on a major high-growth initiative during his service. And he’s an avid investor in the technology sector of the economy.
Since assuming leadership of ABL in 1985, Bob has continuously explored and developed innovative new programs for the organization, including its Healthcare Executives Round Table Program, as well as various Financial and Board of Directors Workshops. Bob has been recognized for his Board of Directors work with growing companies as an Inc. Magazine "Entrepreneur Supporter of the Year" in Orange County, and subsequently as one of three national finalists in that category. He published “The Board of Directors and Its Role in Growing Companies” in 1984. He’s been chair of two companies while they were recognized as #50 and #280 on the Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Companies List. He also continues to provide an average of two of his half day “Developing an Effective Board” workshops annually. He developed and served on the advisory board, provided financial deal counseling and general business strategy guidance, and acted as a temporary division president, for a private security technology company, which was subsequently sold to a Fortune 500 US utility for hundreds of millions of dollars. In the mid ‘90’s he co-authored “Better Than Money,” recognized by Harvard Business School’s Professor of Entrepreneurship, as the first major work on the then emerging field of “angel investing.” Co-author Dave Berkus subsequently became Chairman of the Tech Coast Angels, the largest angel investment network in the U.S.
Prior to his involvement with the development of ABL, Bob provided various combinations of executive leadership, strategy, and support services for innovation initiatives through executive positions and a business development consultancy. Four of these companies experienced extraordinary growth during his tenure and two were then on the Fortune 500. Immediately prior to ABL, in 1981, he co-founded what became the General Group of Companies which achieved $200 million in sales in 1985 through several strategic partnerships and spin-offs, which he shaped.
Bob holds a BBA degree from Notre Dame and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Bob is married to ABL business partner Mimi Grant and they have two adult children.
