REFRACTEC,
INC. AND EYEMAGINATIONS, INC. TO COLLABORATE ON 3D PRESBYOPIA PATIENT
EDUCATION PROGRAM
Partnership
to Develop Animated Simulations of the Aging Eye and NearVision CK
Treatment for Distribution to Refractive Practices Nationwide
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 4, 2006 - Ophthalmic device manufacturer, Refractec,
Inc. is teaming up with interactive design and multimedia development
firm, Eyemaginations, Inc. to create a specialized presbyopia patient
education animation program for distribution to more than 800
ophthalmologists across the U.S. The Eyemaginations' product will
be available for sale and distribution beginning in January 2006.
The custom production will feature 3D animations simulating presbyopia,
the leading eye condition among Baby Boomers in the U.S., and
Refractec's NearVision CK (conductive keratoplasty), the only non-laser
treatment for near vision loss associated with presbyopia (a.k.a.
"aging eyes"). The PC-based patient education package
will be available for use in waiting rooms, exam rooms and consultation
areas.
"This educational program will help make ophthalmic consultations
more productive for both patients and physicians," said Tom Frinzi,
Refractec's chief operating officer. "The Eyemaginations
package will be a powerful communication tool for physicians to help
explain the presbyopic condition and the value of NearVision CK as a
treatment option."
In addition to detailed overviews and simulations of presbyopia and the
NearVision CK treatment, the program will offer physicians the ability
to update into the Eyemaginations 3D-Eye Office full software suite
allowing physicians to add hundreds of other exciting 3D animations
including their own video segments.
"We specialize in creating compelling visual programming and
educational elements for the eye-care industry," said Jeff Peres,
Eyemaginations' chief executive officer. "Refractec's project
will showcase our capabilities and give more than 800 doctors a chance
to see how our products enhance their refractive practice."
In 2004, Refractec's NearVision CK became the leading nonlaser
refractive treatment in the U.S. and is the fastest growing vision
procedure since the introduction of LASIK. To date, more than
125,000 CK treatments have been performed worldwide with more than 800
physicians certified to perform NearVision CK.

About NearVision CK
NearVision CK is performed using a probe thinner than a strand of hair
that releases radiofrequency energy. Applied to the cornea in a circular
pattern, the radio waves shrink small areas of collagen to create a
constrictive band (like the tightening of a belt) that increases the
curvature of the cornea, bringing near vision back into focus.
NearVision CK is indicated for the temporary improvement of near vision
in emmetropic presbyopes (those who require only reading glasses) and
hyperopic presbyopes (those who require reading and distance glasses).
About Refractec
Refractec, Inc. is a privately held ophthalmic technology company that
develops and markets minimally invasive treatments for ophthalmologists
and their baby boomer patients. Based in Irvine, Calif., Refractec
provides "Corrective Solutions for Near Vision" with its
proprietary NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) technology.
