NDC:
New Software Enables Remote Monitoring
NDC Infrared Engineering, where Bromley
Beadle is President, has introduced The RemoteView station permits the user all the capabilities of
the local operator station. >>

The
Cannery: Instrumental in FiOS TV --and Leila's-- Debut
The Cannery, where Doug Textor is CEO, performed the leading role
in developing Verizon's interactive FiOS TV demonstration that premiered at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show. FiOS TV is
Verizon's new all-digital video broadcast service offered over the
company's fiber-to-the-premises network. >>
Also,
congratulations to Doug and his wife, Jennifer, on the birth of
their daughter, Leila Katherine, pictured here getting her
first kiss from big brother Owen: >>

DataLabs:
New Software Manages Clinical Trial Processes
DataLabs, where Nick Richards is COO,
has introduced Site Manager™
as an integrated addition to its eCDM platform -- an advanced clinical trial software that enables collaborative
processes to quickly identify, select and initiate investigator sites.
It also allows easy monitoring, administration and communication with
sites during the clinical trial. Also,
DataLabs has partnered with Galt Associates, an international leader in managing risk through
information, to integrate Galt’s dsNavigator coding and dictionary
management product with DataLabs' eCDM platform, creating a single
integrated solution for biopharmaceutical and CRO companies to streamline clinical data management processes and reduce time and costs. >>

IOGEAR:
Introduces Multi-Function Printer Server
IOGEAR, where Sampson Yang is CEO, has launched its palm-sized USB Multi-Function Print Server, which
allows all networked PCs in SMB and home office environments to access one
multi-function USB printer. This device
supports two-way communication, providing real-time
updates on ink or toner levels and progress reports on sending and
receiving faxes and, by connecting the print server to a wireless router, it
immediately becomes a Wide Local Area Network unit, enabling
wireless communication with all computers on the network. >>

Microsemi:
Expands Power Management Portfolio
The
Integrated Products Group of Microsemi, where Jim Peterson is CEO,
has added an expanded-feature device to its
line of multiple output controllers used in power supplies for set-top
box, video processor and a wide variety of multi-output power supply
applications in portable computers and peripherals. Meanwhile,
Microsemi also announced a new 2.5 amp
dual-channel ultra-low dropout regulator for applications ranging
from PC peripherals and instrumentation to battery charging circuits and
power to ASIC, memory and input/output circuits. >>

NetworkD-Miratech
to Deliver Complete Service Solutions
NetworkD, where Ashley Leonard is CEO, has
formed a joint venture with Miratech, based in Kiev, Ukraine,
to deliver a broad range of services, including
custom application development, process standardization, process
optimization, process re-engineering, and full and modular
out-tasking solutions with a near shore or blended delivery model.
Meanwhile,
NetworkD was awarded ECP’s highest level of certification
-- "Certified Best" -- in its 2006 Tool Review for the solution set iValue
Suite, of which NetworkD is the exclusive vendor.

Tanner
EDA: Supports New Industry Standard
Tanner EDA, a division of Tanner
Research, where John Tanner is CEO, announced that the newest
version of its T-Spice Pro Circuit Simulator program for analog and
mixed-signal integrated circuit design, supports the Penn State
Philips transistor model, which was recently selected as the next standard for simulating future CMOS
transistors manufactured at 65 nanometers and below. "Tanner’s
rapid support of the PSP model demonstrates our ongoing commitment to
adopting the latest technologies and enabling our customers to adopt
leading-edge industry standards," noted John. >>

OC
VC
Funding Up in 2005
Orange
County companies raised nearly $500 million in venture
capital in 2005, including $64 million in the fourth
quarter -- the most money raised in the county since 2002,
according to a report by Ernst & Young. The medical
device industry continued to attract the most VC dollars,
with nearly $210 million invested in OC last year. (OCTANe,
2/13/06)

Cyber
Attacks Hit Majority of Online Firms
54%
of firms
that rely on the Internet to conduct business have
experienced some form of cyber attack in the past year, with
21% of the attacks causing more than $100,000 in measurable
damages, and 11% causing more than $500,000 in damages,
according to the 1st Annual Enterprise Security Survey from Top
Layer Networks. Also, nearly
60% of respondents reported an increase in spending on
information security products from 2004 to 2005, while only
3% reported a decrease. Looking ahead, most respondents
named spyware as the most significant future threat for
networks. And though 87% of respondents said they were
"entirely" or "highly" Internet-reliant,
24% of the organizations polled do not have IT security
policies in place for employees. (eMarketer
Daily, 2/6/05)

Online
Searches Boom
Online
searches grew 55%, year over year, to 5.1 billion searches
in December of 2005, reports Neilsen/Netratings
-- even though the number of people connected to the
Internet only rose by 3%. Google had a 49% share of all
searches in December, said Neilsen, with Yahoo at number two
with 21.4%, and MSN Search at number three with 10.9% of
searches. (socalTECH.com

NASA
Explores Raising VC Fund
NASA
released a request for information recently
for "Red Planet Capital,"
a venture
capital fund
that it plans
to establish to fund early-stage companies.
The new fund will be aimed at innovative, dual-use
technologies that might be of use to NASA, although NASA
said that the companies shouldn't expect the government to
be their primary customer. NASA said that it expects
investment and operational funds available in 2006 to total
$11
million,
with the fund growing approximately $20
million
per year. The agency is now looking for a firm that is
willing to establish and operate the venture capital fund.

Lessons
& Resources from a Corporate Move: John Tanner, CEO of Tanner
Research, recently moved into a renovated 20,000-square-foot
facility. Considering the scope of the move, it went very
smoothly, just taking a week longer -- but costing significantly
more -- than planned. So that we can all learn from his
hard-earned experience, John captured his costs for future reference on the attached spreadsheet.
