Brooklyn
Radiation Oncology Opens MARCH 2006
State-of-the-Art Radiation Therapy Now
Available in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 28, 2006) – Brooklyn
Radiation Oncology, a new state-of-the-art radiation oncology
facility in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn, has announced that
it will open its doors to patients in early April 2006.
The facility offers patient access to a highly trained team of board
certified radiation oncologists using the most advanced treatment
options for cancer. The center is equipped with a Varian Clinac© iX
Linear Accelerator capable of delivering Intensity Modulated
Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).
Under the direction of the physicians, these advanced clinical
treatment options permit precise targeting of radiation to a tumor,
sparing critical normal organs, providing for better outcomes and
fewer side effects for patients. The facility also includes a CT
Simulator, an Eclipse Treatment Planning System and a Varis Vision
Clinical Management System to provide a full complement of the most
advanced tools available to radiation oncologists for delivering
optimal cancer care.
Brooklyn Radiation Oncology is a joint venture between the radiation
oncologists at Beth Israel Medical Center, who formed Brooklyn
Radiation Oncology, PC, Vantage Oncology, Inc., an El Segundo,
Calif.-based developer of advanced radiation oncology facilities and
Metropolitan Radiation Oncology, PC. Brooklyn Radiation
Oncology, PC, which will operate the center and provide physician
services, is led by Louis Harrison, MD Director of the Continuum
Cancer Centers and Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Beth Israel
Medical Center and St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital. The Medical
Director of the facility is Paul Gliedman, MD, Associate Director of
Continuum Cancer Centers. David Schwartz, MD, President of
Metropolitan Radiation Oncology, PC, brings thirteen years of
experience and exceptional service in the Brooklyn community.
The Brooklyn and Manhattan based physicians have assembled a
talented team of nurses, physicists and technicians to provide
medical care at the facility. “Brooklyn has been fortunate to have
top rate cancer specialists, but is lacking access to innovative
radiation therapy technology. Now Brooklyn patients can stay in the
local area to get the kind of treatment that they would have had to
travel to Manhattan to receive," said Dr. Gliedman. “It is our
mission to provide a standard of care for cancer patients that is
unequalled by other facilities, and I believe that our relationship
with Vantage Oncology has helped us take a step closer toward
attaining this goal."
“We are very pleased to be working with Drs. Harrison, Gliedman
and Schwartz in this state-of-the-art radiation oncology facility
that now serves the Brooklyn community," said Michael T. Fiore,
CEO of Vantage Oncology.
“Cancer continues to affect hundreds of thousands of people every
year and, as a patient, you want a team of experts that is dedicated
to helping you beat this disease," said Dr. Schwartz. “The
communities of Brooklyn now have access to highly sophisticated
equipment to complement some of the finest cancer specialists in the
country and I am confident that, working together, we can
effectively educate and treat the patients who have entrusted us
with their care."
