Omnitron Launches Managed Edge Chassis with Redundant Power and PoE

Designed for Mission-Critical Enterprise and Service Provider Customer Premises Applications

Irvine, CA June 1, 2006 – Omnitron Systems Technology, a leading provider of Fiber Optic access systems for Next Generation Ethernet networks, today announced the release of the iConverter 1-Module Redundant-Power Chassis. The new small form factor chassis features a flexible and managed power sourcing scheme based on Power over Ethernet (PoE) support.

The iConverter 1-Module Redundant-Power Chassis is an ideal solution for mission-critical Enterprise and Metro Ethernet fiber deployments requiring managed media conversion in locations lacking ready access to power sources. The power features enable easy installation and ongoing management in even the most challenging locations.

Power sourcing and configuration features of the new iConverter Chassis include:

  • Integrated PoE Powered Device (PD) support via a 10/100 UTP connector for powering from an upstream Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) switch or a Midspan Power Source (MPS)

  • Redundant DC or DC/PoE power configuration support

  • Two integrated UTP 10/100 ports, plus port options from the installed Omnitron iConverter module

  • Optional 9-18 Volt DC Terminal or Barrel connectors and 48 Volt DC Terminal connectors

  • Contact closure alarm sensors for UPS connectivity and remote management of power conditions

When an iConverter self-managed media converter module is installed in the chassis, it provides remotely managed Ethernet demarcation in a compact and cost-effective form factor. This configuration supports VLAN with Q-in-Q to enable E-Line and E-LAN services, Quality of Service prioritization for real-time voice and video over Ethernet, and bandwidth control to deliver rate based service differentiation.

iConverter equipment can be managed with Omnitron’s SNMP-based NetOutlook management software, third-party SNMP software, or Telnet. NetOutlook has an intuitive interface that remotely monitors network status, configures equipment and receives trap notifications. iConverter self-managed modules support the IEEE 802.3ah standard and Omnitron’s Secure IP-less management.

The iConverter 1-Module Redundant-Power Chassis supports the entire family of iConverter modules, providing support for a wide range of copper-to-fiber and fiber-to-fiber configurations.
