Worldwide IT
Spending to Reach $1.5 Trillion
End users spent $1.16
trillion on information technology in 2006, according to
newly updated figures on worldwide IT spending from IDC, and
will increase spending at a compound annual growth rate of
6.3% to reach $1.48 trillion in 2010.
The global IT market will
expand nearly 30% over the next four years. For hardware,
worldwide market spending is set to recover in the 2006-2010
period, reaching $562 billion in 2010. IDC sees rising
spending on volume servers, peripherals and storage, and
networking equipment. But growth will be driven mainly by
robust spending in the home business and consumer,
communications and government sectors. Worldwide software
spending is expected to reach $327 billion in 2010,
reflecting a five-year CAGR of 7.7%. The largest markets are
discrete manufacturing, services industries and government,
and the fastest-growing markets will be healthcare,
communications and government. IDC expects spending on IT
services worldwide to reach $587 billion in 2010, reflecting
a CAGR of 5.8% from 2005 to 2010. The largest market
opportunities will be in government, banking and discrete

GPS-Enabled Sneaker to Hit
Stores
Isaac Daniel, an athletic footwear manufacturer/retailer,
plans to release the Compass Global 1000, a sneaker equipped
with an embedded global positioning system. In the event of
an emergency, the wearer can activate the footwear’s alarm,
which uses satellite tracking communication ability to relay
a signal to law enforcement authorities. The shoe can also
monitor the wearer’s body temperature, heart rate, and
stress level, and store the wearer’s medical history. It's
also equipped with an internal speaker and microphone that
