Kelly Anderson, Sendio,
Inc.
Kelly Anderson is CEO of Sendio, Inc., which provides the
only enterprise-level anti-spam solution that uses Sender
Address Verification (SAV) to eliminate unwanted emails. Most
corporate anti-spam solutions rely on filters and algorithms
that miss large numbers of unwanted emails while mistakenly
characterizing useful messages as spam (“false positives").
The Sendio I.C.E. Box (Intercept, Confirm or Eliminate) is a
hardware device that seamlessly integrates with all enterprise
messaging platforms to process millions of messages a day per
server and, using SAV, empowers users to accept messages based
on who sent them, rather than relying on filters to reject
unwanted messages. Sendio was founded in 2003 and has more
than 100 customers throughout the U.S. Kelly joined Sendio in
October 2006. Previously, at IP3 Networks, he launched a
worldwide enterprise sales and marketing strategy focused on
network access control solutions for the enterprise. Prior to
that, he was Senior VP of Worldwide Sales for GoRemote
Internet Communications. Also, during his 23-year career at
Nortel, Kelly held executive positions in international sales,
marketing, strategic alliances, business development and
product management. He also spearheaded entrepreneurial new
product positioning and market entry strategies in key areas
such as CRM, security and mobile applications. At Tech West
Ventures, he applied his extensive background across a broad
spectrum of disciplines in the Internet, security and wireless
communications to help early-stage companies achieve success.
Referred to ABL by Dave Berkus of Berkus Technology
Ventures, LLC, Kelly has joined the Wednesday Orange
County Technology Executives Round Table.

Roger Couture, Ariel Link
Roger Couture is President and Founder of Ariel Link, a
telecommunications expense management company that leverages
the skills of its telecom professionals and proprietary
software to correct phone companies' bill errors and identify
additional ongoing savings. The company has successfully
reduced its clients' eligible telecom charges by an additional
50% over and above any E-rate reductions. For example, Ariel
Link has assisted school districts in applying for and
receiving up to 90% discounts on all monthly recurring telecom
charges. Prior to founding Ariel Link in 1998, Roger spent six
years as Business Director for a private telecom audit firm
and assisted in the transformation to an expense management
corporation before going public. There, he worked closely with
Fortune 500 organizations to reduce their expenses through
telecom contract negotiations, error identification, and
correction and refund recovery. Roger was on the leading edge
of introducing to the marketplace Telecom Expense Management
Services for inventory management, invoice processing and
automation of carrier bill payments. Earlier, he was with a
fiber optics-based, by-pass long distance provider offering
the first nationwide Frame Relay networks. He was also
involved on the hardware side of telecom with AT&T Financial
Services and AT&T/Paradyne, where he worked with large
corporations on financing large telecom capital acquisitions,
network design and optimization, network monitoring, and
management and the integration of new technologies.
Referred to ABL by Oli Thordarson of Alvaka Networks,
Roger has joined the West Los Angeles Technology Executives Round Table.

Yonamine's Darple.com Auction Website Profiled
Dave
Yonamine, CEO of Upstanding Inc., was pictured on the
cover of June 18's Business Monday, the Orange
County Register’s weekly business magazine, which profiled
Liquid Markets Inc. and its auction web site Darple.com, for
which Dave serves as President.
Darple
is an acronym for Double Auctions Rapidly Promote Liquidity
for Everything. Darple's software allows double auctions on
all kinds of items at once. For example, you want to buy your
grandmother a birthday present, but you don't care whether
it's a blouse, baking pan or book for under $25. You create
what Darple calls a bidset for all three. The seller who
accepts your bid first determines what Grandma's gift will be,
and your other bids are withdrawn. The site charges no fees,
but Darple does take a percentage of the sale price. (OC
Register, 6/18/07)

Report Outlines Strategy for U.S. Competitiveness
CEOs from the nation's leading technology companies have
unveiled a comprehensive report outlining a strategy for
U.S. competitiveness for the 21st Century, called
"A Great Nation: How Americans Can Lead and Prosper in a
Changing World." Released by the Technology
CEO Council, a policy advocacy group focused on ensuring
U.S. competitiveness through technology leadership,
the report outlines how the U.S. can leverage its inherent strengths
to remain an economic leader in a global marketplace:
—Building on our openness and inclusiveness by opening
global markets, attracting the best and brightest workers
and adopting a responsible and effective export control
policy;
—Taking advantage of our information-rich infrastructure by
promoting infrastructure in telecommunications, health,
energy and transportation and utilizing data effectively to
advance homeland security, health and research;
—Extending our innovation excellence by promoting basic
research through federal, state and university programs,
promoting science and tech education and strengthening the
R&D tax credit; and
—Unleashing our entrepreneurial spirit by eliminating
uneconomic
subsidies, maintaining a balanced intellectual property
regime and
promoting tax policies that incent individuals and
businesses to
innovate and invest in the U.S. (PRNewswire, 6/13/07)

Portables Driving Worldwide PC Market
PC shipments (excluding handhelds) are projected to reach
356.7 million worldwide in 2011, up from 256.7 million in
2007, according to IDC.
Portable PCs
(notebooks and ultra portables) are driving international
(non-U.S.) PC market growth. Shipments are projected to
nearly double to 106.1 million in 2009 from the 56.5 million
shipped in 2006. The saturated U.S. market is another story.
"Despite solid growth in portable PC shipments, the slump in
the commercial desktop market continues, dragging down the
overall U.S. PC market," Bob O'Donnell of IDC said. "We
expect portable PC shipments to maintain double-digit growth
rates for the next few years, as demand for mobility
continues to shift new buyers from desktops to notebooks." (eMarketer
Daily, 6/15/07)
Meanwhile,
Forrester Research reports that there
will be more than one billion PCs in use worldwide by the
end of 2008, and two billion by 2015. Brazil, Russia, India
and China will account for more than 775 million new PCs by
2015.
Forrester
also noted that PC life cycles will be longer in emerging
markets, requiring vendors to work together to scale
production. (eMarketer Daily, 6/15/07)

Cleantech Industry on a Growth Spurt
Spending on "cleantech" - the development of
new energy and environmental technologies - is projected to
grow by 14% in 2007 to exceed $55 billion worldwide,
according to Lux Research. Analysts forecast corporate and
government spending to increase by 10% and venture capital
to double. The Asia/Pacific region leads in government
funding, corporate R&D spending, and scientific
publications, while the U.S. leads in deployment of venture
capital and in patents issued. U.S. venture capital
accounted for about two-thirds of the world’s 1,500
cleantech startups last year, when venture spending more
than doubled to reach about $2 billion worldwide. Asia
accounted for 36% of the $46 billion in cleantech R&D spent
by governments and corporations in 2006. Europe was second,
accounting for 30% of public and corporate R&D, while the
U.S. came it third with 28%. (KenRadio.com, 6/15/07)
Meanwhile,
the EPA, Intel, Google, Dell, EDS, HP, IBM, Lenovo,
Microsoft, PG&E, World Wildlife Fund and over 25 other
organizations have announced the Climate Savers Computing
Initiative, which is setting a new 90% efficiency target for
power supplies, which if achieved, will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions by 54 million tons per year—and save more than
$5.5 billion in energy costs. (Business Wire, 6/13/07)

AT&T to Block Pirated Content
AT&T has became the
first major U.S. telecommunications carrier to announce that
it will take steps to curb Internet piracy on its network.
AT&T did not yet specify how it would detect and block
individual copyrighted files, but said it would not block
web sites used to distribute illegal content. As the largest
U.S. broadband Internet provider with almost 13 million
lines, AT&T said that pirated material is clogging the
network and costing the company money. (KenRadio.com,
6/14/07)
